The Togo School Project

Brighter Futures is in the final stages of construction on a school, Masjid, and Madrasa for over 900 students in Togo

Our Goal

When news that over 900 students in rural Togo were struggling to study the Quran in an overcrowded and underfunded building, we wanted to explore how we could help. Working hand-in-hand with local leadership, we were able to purchase land, begin construction on a school, and support instructors in teaching over 900 students.

How it Began…

Ibrahim Moufti is from Togo, a tiny, often overlooked country in West Africa. After accepting Islam, he memorized the Quran. He noticed that in Togo, there was a gaping void in resources to learn and study the Quran.

He helped start the DarusSalam School for Quran study (a registered charity in Togo). As word of this school spread, enrollment soon swelled to over 900 students.

These students live and study in cramped conditions, in a school that really can only safely house 200 students. When they have food, they eat. On the days they don’t, they remain patient.

On-the-Ground Impact

Given the low cost of building and purchasing goods in Togo, we have been able to make a sizable impact. A mere 50 USD is enough to support a student for a month. 200 USD is enough to support the salary of one hifz teacher for a month along with their whole family.
