Naseem Ghouse conceived the idea of Brighter Futures Foundation in 2018. She is an educator, mother, and fervent advocate for providing educational opportunities. This is the story of Brighter Futures Foundation captured in her words:
In 2018, I was newly diagnosed with cancer and found myself grappling for a cause that would leave an impact on the world. At the time, my son, told me about a colleague from Togo, who established a school in his impoverished community. The school quickly grew to an enrollment of approximately 900 students. The school provided students with an opportunity of occasional meals and some semblance of shelter. For many children, this was a luxury that they did not receive in their own homes. The school was housed in a small rental property that struggled to accommodate the large number of students enrolled. The students were eager to learn despite their meager conditions and often spent days hungry due to lack of resources to feed them. Despite these difficult circumstances, they patiently persevered to fulfill their unwavering intention of advancing their education.
After learning of the conditions these children faced, our organization worked to create a campaign that funded the purchase of 25 acres of land for a new school, and were able to initiate the first stages of construction for new facilities large enough to accommodate the schools growing enrollment.
The school concentrates on teaching students recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran. We are planning on soon expanding to offer a comprehensive curriculum in Islamic sciences to prepare students to become Islamic scholars.
Furthermore, we are actively planning on expanding the school’s operations to offer an additional curriculum that teaches mathematics, French (the local language), English, equips the children with life skills that will prepare them to actively engage with a modernizing society. With this comprehensive education these students will grow to build and advance their surrounding communities.
